Practices

Practices are twice per week (for 1-3 hrs depending on age/fitness level) . They are not mandatory but participation is encouraged. Tues/Thurs afternoons (times change depending on daylight) at our home course of Yellow River: 3232 Juhan Rd SW, Stone Mountain, GA 30087.  We meet at the biking parking lot noted here on Google Maps (just past the address listed above: Meeting Spot).

At practice, coaches split riders into groups based on age, ability, and fitness level so that kids are riding with peers of a similar pace. Typical components of practice include: brief discussion of practice goals, warm up spin, skills session, hot laps / KOM-QOM Competitions / race simulation, & fun rides.

Our competition level varies quite a bit- with some kids training hard to win races, and other kids who just want to enjoy outdoor exercise with a team. We want all teammates, regardless of skill, to have fun riding, make new friends, and develop a lifelong love of biking.

Our Trails at Yellow River

Yellow River trails are interconnected and allow for organic trail routing. We ride the two routes noted below. If you head out there, look for small light blue signs with white arrows - these represent the main trail route. We have orange signs with white arrows that mark alternate routes/by-passes/early exits.

House Loop - 2.9 mi, ~300 ft Climb

NorDek/DHSMTB 2021 "House" Loop River Side. 2.9 miles with ~300 feet of climbing.  This loop is our entry level loop for new riders and allows for progression of fitness and skills. Note that during race simulations we will tack on a starting section of grass just like in real races to help stratify our riders before they hit the single track. As the season progresses, riders will ride multiple loops https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35629018 .
